Nadja Puttner / Mamadou M’baye
Open Dance Classes
25-26.02.2012 / Studio Słodownia +3
The choreographers and teachers who are conducting the workshops in the Old Brewery New Dance for Children project are also experts in teaching dance to adults. During the weekend Open Classes we invite you to workshops with Nadja Puttner and Mamadou M'Baye. Our invitation applies to professional dancers, dance aficionados and all other adults who wish to experience unique and hot rhythms in midwinter.
Nadja Puttner (Austria)
Nadja Puttner is an Austrian choreographer, dancer and dance teacher. She received classical ballet training at the Austrian Ballettschule and musical education at the Vienna Musical School. She also studied ballet, modern jazz and contemporary dance at the Henny Jurriens Stiftung Foundation, the Netherlands. She has created numerous choreographies which have been performed on Austrian stages. In 2001, with Viktor Shekhovtsov, she founded the Studio an der Wien dance school.
Open Classes with Nadja Puttner will be held under the theme „contemporary flow”. This class wants to make the participants dance with their whole bodies and souls and provides them with tools to improve their technique, movement quality and expressivity.
We start out with an energizing warm up containing elements from release, yoga and modern technique, designed to warm up the joints and muscles and get us deep into our bodies. In the following combinations and diagonals we start to explore the space, the floor and the dynamics of movement. We finish the class with an original, expressive piece of choreography, focusing on finding and enjoying our own personal way of dancing.
Mamadou M’Baye (Senegal)
Mamadou M'Baye is primarily a dancer, musician and poet whose work is deeply embedded in African culture. A member of the ancient family of griots he wishes to be the ambassador of African Culture in Europe where he has been working for over fifteen years. The Senegalese artist has conducted dance and music classes at some major international venues, for example at the Impulstanz Festival, Vienna.
The Open Classes with African Dance will focus on finding joy in movement and in becoming one with the rhythm of African drums. Mamadou teaches the choreography and meaning of original African dances not only from Senegal, but also from West Africa. The catchphrase of his classes is: “If you can walk you can dance”.
